What is a tourist visa?

A temporary resident visa (TRV), also known as a visitor visa or a Canadian tourist visa, is an official document issued by the Canada Visa Office and placed in your passport to indicate that you are eligible for admission to Canada as a resident. You have a temporary (or as a visitor, student or worker).

Some of the documents required to apply for a temporary visa:

To apply for a Canadian tourist visa, you must provide the following conditions and documents:

  • Valid passport
  • Do not have a disease that is dangerous to public health
  • Have no criminal or immigration convictions
  • Prove that you have dependencies such as a job, a house, financial assets or the family with which you are connected, to prove that you will return to your country
  • Prove that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit
  • Have enough money for your stay
  • What is your itinerary?

 

How long can a visitor stay in Canada?

Most visitors are allowed to stay for six months from the day they arrive in Canada. If the officer allows you to stay for less than six months, they will show you in your passport the date you must leave Canada. If you want to stay longer than your authorized stay, you must apply for an extension at least 30 days before the end of your authorized stay.

Who needs a tourist / temporary visa?

Tourists are people who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and are legal allowed to enter Canada for:

  • Visit Canada on vacation (holiday),
  • Family visit,
  • Doing business (not allowed to work) and so on.

 

 

Do I need an eTA?

Citizens of some countries need an electronic entry permit (eTA) to enter Canada and must have this document to board the aircraft.
eTA is very similar to the ESTA (Electronic Travel Permit System) in the United States.

Some visa-free countries include:

England
Australia
France
Japan
Chile
There are certain passengers who need or do not need ETA.

If you are currently in Canada and want to stay longer than your visa expires, you can apply.

If your application to extend your stay in Canada is approved, you will receive a visitor record.

Visitor history does not guarantee entry into Canada. If you plan to travel outside of Canada or the United States, you will need a valid entry document to return to Canada.
